Practical Info

Patagonia has several airports: Bariloche (BRC), El Calafate (FTE), Ushuaia (USH), and Trelew (REL), all with direct flights from Buenos Aires (2-3.5 hours). You can also drive along the legendary Route 40 or arrive by long-distance bus.

The ideal season is October to March (spring-summer), with longer days and temperatures that allow outdoor activities. For skiing, the season is June to September. Autumn (April-May) offers incredible scenery with beech forests in reddish colors.

Cold and windy climate. Cool summers (10-20°C). Very cold winters with frequent snowfall (-5 to 5°C). Constant strong winds, especially in spring. Great variations between north (lake district) and south (Tierra del Fuego).

Warm layered clothing, windbreaker and waterproof jacket, trekking boots, gloves, beanie, sunscreen (the sun is strong), sunglasses, trekking poles if hiking. Even in summer, bring warm clothing for cold nights.
